Getting the size wrong on an AC cover is a common (and avoidable) mistake — too small and it won't fit over the unit, too large and it looks bulky and doesn't seal against wind-driven rain properly. Here's how to measure yours in under five minutes.
What to measure
You need two numbers: the width and height of your outdoor condenser unit, including any brackets or piping that sit outside its main body. Measure the widest point and the tallest point — not just the casing.
- Width: Measure the unit at its widest point, left to right.
- Height: Measure from the base to the highest point, including any raised vents or fan housing.
Add roughly 100–150mm to each measurement for clearance — the cover needs airspace around the unit, not a tight fit, or you'll choke the airflow it needs to run efficiently.
Matching your measurements to our sizes
- Small — 900 x 700mm: compact single-split units, common on apartment balconies and townhouses.
- Medium — 1080 x 800mm: our most popular size, right for standard single or twin-split units on a typical family home.
- Large — 1100 x 1000mm: bigger multi-fan condensers or larger single-split units.
- Extra Large — 1300 x 1100mm: commercial-grade condensers, ducted systems and large multi-split setups.
Don't forget airflow clearance
Every Komposite cover uses an engineered vent design specifically so the unit keeps drawing and expelling air properly once it's covered — but that only works if there's enough space inside the cover for air to actually move. When in doubt, size up rather than down.
